Fr. Pat McCaffrey (SSC) died suddenly of a heart attack in Murree, Pakistan on the 18th May 2010. He was based in Lahore.
Fr. Pat was ordained in 1967. He served many years in the missionary field. He was a resident member and co-founder of the Ecumenical Columba Community in Bradford and worked tirelessly and with massive energy for interfaith relations there and throughout the Diocese of Leeds.
He is remembered with great affection by people of many different cultures and faiths in Bradford and especially in Nelson, Lancashire. He is also one of the founders of Asian Catholic Community Nelson (ACCN).
Although as Asian Catholics, we were involved with our own parishes, Fr. Pat encouraged us to continue our efforts, and he worked very hard for many years to bring the Asian Catholic Community together in celebrating Holy Mass in Urdu.
His vision was to unite the Asian Catholics in celebrating the Holy Mass in a familiar tradition and language. In the year 1999, the first Holy Mass in Urdu Mass in Urdu was celebrated at the Holy Saviour Church in Nelson and ever since 2005 every first Sunday of the month, at Christ Church, Nelson.
