Benedict XVI: From prayer, the strength to live in Christ

"Prayer is not a waste of time, it does not rob much space from our activities, not even apostolic activities, it does the exact opposite: only if we are able to have a life of faithful, constant, confident prayer will God Himself give us the strength and capacity to live in a happy and peaceful way, to overcome difficulties and to bear witness with courage." Pope Benedict XVI Aug. 29 general audience address at Castel Gandolfo

Islamabad, Islamic leaders challenge medical report, call for punishment of Rimsha Masih

Islamabad (AsiaNews) - A court in Islamabad, under pressure from religious leaders in the courtroom, has postponed to September 1 the trial for blasphemy against Rimsha Masih, a Christian girl of 13 who is being held in prison for burning pages of the Koran . The Islamist front, through a lawyer, presented a report that disputes the results of the medical committee, who declared her a minor with - unspecified - mental disabilities. The tension was palpable in the court, increasing security concerns for Rimsha's safety, whose life now appears increasingly endangered.

Mentally impaired child arrested under Pakistan's anti-blasphemy law

A young girl who suffers from Down's Syndrome has been arrested in Pakistan for allegedly burning a page from the Quran and could face the death penalty.
Police confirmed that they arrested a young girl named Rimsha on Aug. 16 at the urging of neighbors who claim they saw her burning pages of the book outside her home, according to Vatican Radio.

Paul Bhatti against NGOs and activists who "speculate" on blasphemous disabled girl affair

The prime minister's special adviser on national harmony is working closely with Muslim leaders to keep a lid on the situation and save Rimsha Masih from prison. He expects "positive developments" but is highly critical of those who are exploiting the incident for their own "gain." Islamabad bishop slams distorted versions and "immature" attitudes.

An 11-year-old girl with Down’s syndrome has fallen foul of Pakistan’s blasphemy laws. Should we really continue to support this anti-Christian country?

What will Mr Cameron say or do about this gross barbarity? Just carry on supporting Pakistan regardless?

An 11-year-old disabled Christian girl arrested for blasphemy, 300 families flee

The girl is accused of burning pages from a booklet used to teach Arabic and the Qur'an. Under the Pakistan Penal Code, she could get life in prison. Police saved her from an enraged mob that tried to kill her, but more than 300 families fled their homes fearing more violence. Paul Bhatti calls for calm.

Ooberfuse: Turn The Tide - Rimsha Masih

A Pakistani 11-year-old with Down's syndrome may face the death penalty for blasphemy over her alleged burning of pages from the Quran. Ooberfuse, a London-based electro-pop band, featuring Wizard MC from the British Pakistani Christian Association (BPCA), released Turn the Tide, raising their voices in protest against the latest victim of Pakistan's black blasphemy laws.

In association with the British Pakistani Christian Association http://britishpakistanichristian.blogspot.co.uk/

LYRICS:
They say she burned pages from the Koran
Down's syndrome girl from Pakistan
Taken from her mother's arms
The mob yell out, sound the alarm
Roughly ripped from her family
11 yrs old, for blasphemy
She clings to her mum, crying loud
Police to appease the angry crowd
Holy imam shouts condemnation
Screams for her death ring round the police station

No matter what your colour is
No matter what your creed
No matter what your caste is
When you cut, you bleed

Free!
Turn the tide of hate to the tide of love!
Set her free!

Rimsha Masih, Asia Bibi
We cry for their freedom and dignity
Salman Taseer, Shahbaz Bhatti
Killed for defending minorities
Who'll speak up for the voiceless now
We need to protect and defend somehow
Don't stay silent, protect the defenceless
Don't stay quiet, hate is relentless
Don't stay silent, protect the defenceless
Don't stay quiet, hate is relentless
